Perched atop a picturesque suburban hill, the Chicago Buddhist Center takes full advantage of the rolling topography to offer multilevel access, stunning views, maximum exposure, and an open and welcoming street view.
Using natural elements—white stone and wood—and a wide base that follows the landscape, this sacred building is rooted in the earth. Moving up, each successive layer is lighter and airier, reflecting the stepped structure of ancient sacred architecture, translated through the forms, concepts, and technology of contemporary architecture.
